Right in front of myself, the lead flight attendant and crew below. The crew was on it as they got her phone back to her. This same head flight attendant was hilarious on the speaker! Sometimes there’s a lot of noise interference or they sound muffled, but this time I could understand everything that was spoken. One more positive experience was renting a car through Allegiant which was my first time.

The weight limit per bag was really low - 40 lbs - so we had to pay extra. Then, they said their carry on size was 14x18x8, and we measured our bag very carefully. It was within the limit, yet they said it was too big, so we ended up paying an extra $100 for that too!! So it wasn’t the cheap flight we thought it would be.

It was excuse after excuse after excuse. It was a flight from southern Florida. They made us board the plane on time, but made us wait for 2 hours on the tarmac. Because the engines were kept shut off, so was the air conditioning.

All employees appeared happy and enjoying their job. The delay in take-off was unrelated to anything in Frontier’s control. I wish there were a caffeine-fee, sugar free soda drink option besides water. There are multiple zero sugar caffeine free options. The net issue I had was with the gate agent. We had added a carryon to our boarding pass when we checked bags.

Landing was kinda fast and my ears were plugged for days after. Monday is generally a great day to depart. Flying on this day could help you save up to 255%. I was very relaxed and calm so I took a brief nap. Delayed a day due to snow storm. That kind of made up for significant delays from FLL to COS with no compensation or acknowledgement.

Needless to say I don’t see myself flying frontier ever again. There was only room for a quarter of the passengers to sit at the gate at MCO. The gate attendant allowed people who did not require assistance to board early before they realized and started to turn people back.

James Inglis House, 1927 Ann Arbor District Library

inglis house

From our long-term care community, Inglis House; to our Day Program; to our work with those living independently in the community — Inglis makes a difference in the lives of people with disabilities. Inglis House offers long-term care for adults (age 18 and older) with severe physical disabilities while providing them with a variety of social, recreational and educational opportunities. Our housing communities are staffed by compassionate housing professionals.

This imposing residence, near the University of Michigan Arboretum, was built in 1927 for James Inglis as part of an exclusive subdivision on the eastern edge of town. It was situated on the rear acreage of a farmstead that had been in the Inglis family since 1901. It reputedly cost $250,000 to build and was designed to resemble a French Chateau. Nestled away from the bustle of town, the Inglis House today is owned by the University and is used as a guest house and reception center for visiting dignitaries. Person-centeredness empowers residents to make their own decisions about when to get up or go to bed, how to decorate their room, assist in menu planning and participate in household decisions. Staff and residents work together in a collaborative, home-like setting to set the tone and activity level for their Neighborhoods.

Parking & Garage

There is an application process that must be completed. It would be unusual for a hospital to make a referral and have the applicant move-in at discharge from the hospital. We work with each applicant to make the process as easy as possible. The 252 residents — all wheelchair users — range in age from 20 to 90 (average age 47). Their primary diagnoses a range of neurological and musculoskeletal disorders such as multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury.

Building

We also ask for supporting documentation to go along with the application. Our admissions office will explain the process and assist you along the way. Everyone that calls Inglis home uses a wheelchair for mobility. We look for prospective residents that will benefit from the extensive programming offered and will become active members.

Programs and Services

Here, residents are encouraged to be as independent as possible. Inglis focuses on the entire person, not just a medical diagnosis. We work to help residents reach their goals all while receiving the services they need. Inglis is one of a select few residential facilities throughout the United States that offers such highly specialized, long-term care for people with physical disabilities. In addition to providing medical and personal care, a key aspect of serving younger adults is recognizing that they typically have a wider range of needs than a geriatric nursing home resident. Younger adults, whether congenitally disabled or disabled later in life, struggle to achieve goals that give a sense of autonomy, mastery, and creativity.

Click the image to learn more about our state-wide program. During these difficult times of the pandemic, we are unable to provide in-person tours of our long-term care, skilled nursing wheelchair community. So we have created a virtual tour slideshow to give you an idea of what Inglis House looks like so you can get a sense of the space, the rooms, the activities, etc. James Inglis died in 1950, leaving the house to his wife for her lifetime and then to the University of Michigan. In 1951 Mrs. Inglis moved to Kalamazoo and donated the house to the University. Mrs. Inglis' gardener, Walter Stampflei, remained to tend the gardens, living in the caretaker's cottage until his death.

What comparable homes are near this home?

After some years of inattention, University horticulturalist Charles Jenkins put the gardens back into shape, restoring them to their former glory. This only adds to the splendor of the estate and makes it a real hidden treasure in Ann Arbor. In the 1920s the farmlands were subdivided for development and the "back seven acres" with the best view was chosen by James Inglis as the site of his grand country home. With his wife Elizabeth, who designed the elaborate formal gardens, they created a country estate almost fit for royalty.

Rehabilitation Services

Those disabled unexpectedly as adults often find their personal relationships undergo abrupt and traumatic changes, especially relationships with romantic partners, children or grandchildren. Inglis House provides a range of medical, personal and enrichment services that enable residents to live life to the fullest. The four story residence is Ann Arbor's only true "country estate," an architectural as well as a social landmark.

Person-Centered Care

As Mrs. Spicer described it "... it was truly a 'creation"... And most particularly that garden, where there had been before only long grass and wild blackberries... James Inglis, a successful Detroit industrialist, owned the American Blower Company. In 1901 his sister Kate and her husband Frank Smith, had purchased a farm in the "country" near Ann arbor in order to live a simpler life. Kate's niece, Carol Inglis Spicer, remembered her aunt's grapevines strung along Geddes Street as well as the farm's apples and pears and chickens.

Charlotte Tilbury Will Launch Beauty Advent Calendar in October

Tapping into cream blush territory, it couldn’t be easier to apply for a buildable glow. These are stunning offerings from CT – I’m quite drawn to the Emerald shade – which is quite a different emerald than most and the Smokey Quartz. Even though they are expensive, at least they are good quality products. Create the perfect makeup canvas with this set of Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation, Magic Away Liquid Concealer and Wonderglow Face Primer to keep it all in place.

Charlotte Tilbury Glowing Eyes & Luscious Lips Kit, $55, original price: $92

Charlotte Tilbury Cosmic Rocks Hypnotising Pop Shot Eyeshadow ($34.00 for 0.04 oz.) has a darker, grayish base that was packed with an intense, duochrome shimmer that shifted from bluish-teal to purple. I might call it a weak multichrome if pressed, but it seemed to shift between two shades that simply offered more of a gradient between those two shades than having three distinctive shifts. Christine Mielke is the editor-in-chief and has been reviewing products for over 14 years. Charlotte’s Magic Serum Crystal Elixir is enriched with vitamin C to help brighten the skin to restore a youthful complexion. It’s best when used before Charlotte’s Magic Cream, so we recommend swiping both before the 20%-off sale ends. Ahead, shop the hottest items on sale you’ll want to pick up and store in your makeup vanity.

While my favorite scents were Joyphoria and Magic Energy, my least favorites might end up being your favorites. Although I would like to have more sex and increase my feelings of love, unfortunately, those weren't the scents that spoke to me. I felt most drawn to Joyphoria and Magic Energy, so I typically rotate the two of those into my scent routine. I spritz on my wrists, the back of my neck, down my shirt, and in my hair.

In fact, the brand’s keen eye to whipping out glowy skin-ready makeup products is virtually unmatched. The Bigger, Brighter Eye Tricks kit comes with a palette, an Eyes to Mesmerise liquid eyeshadow in the shade of your choice and one classic eyeliner. Amp up your eyes with Charlotte Tilbury Hypnotising Pop Shot. Experience highly-pigmented eye shadow textures that offer a sparkling sheen or duochrome wet effect. The dazzling diamond-inspired, pigmented pops of color are housed in jewel-embellished packaging. For the latest information, it is recommended to review the ingredient list printed on the packaging of the product prior to usage or consumption.

There's even a scent that promises to help you have more sex, aptly named "More Sex." The average rating based on all reviewed shade(s) in this formula is shown below. In August, Tilbury introduced her new Magic Water Cream. The new water-based moisturizer aims to provide 100 hours of hydration, reduce pore size and even skin tone. You can’t complete your Pillow Talk look without the brand’s Lip Cheat — another viral product. Some opt to fill in their entire lip area with this, while others prefer an outline pre-lipstick.

Just be sure to use the code REDCARPET to receive 20% off your cart with a minimum spend of $70. While a beautiful one and done shade, my only issue was the fallout. It’s glitter and gets all over the face very quickly. Otherwise, as I discovered, I look like a Cosmic Raccoon. Makeup artist to the stars Charlotte Tilbury is currently having an epic sale.

She has normal-to-dry skin with occasional dryness on cheeks and nose. She has a light plus skintone with subtle, warmer yellow undertones (view her foundation matches here). Charlotte Tilbury Pose Gold Hypnotising Pop Shot Eyeshadow ($34.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium-dark peach with moderate, warm rosy undertones and a metallic finish. Charlotte’s brand-new Pillow Talk Matte Beauty Blush Wands are a lightweight, wearable liquid blush that’s akin to its viral Hollywood Contour Wand ($42) everyone raves about.

Big surprise – I really like Smokey Quartz and Emerald Eyes but I have dupes for both. I find that price for a single shadow just a bit too rich for my blood. They are $41 here in Canada (EACH!) which isn’t as bit a mark up over the US prices as I was expecting but it’s just more than I want to spend for a single eyeshadow. Charlotte Tilbury Smokey Quartz Hypnotising Pop Shot Eyeshadow ($34.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a light-medium taupe-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a lightly sparkling, metallic sheen. For a combination of lip and eye products, consider this kit that comes with the Luxury Palette of Pops in “Celestial Eyes,” a mini eye smudger brush and your choice of a Lip Cheat lip liner and Lip Lustre lip gloss.

Either way, it deserves a spot in your makeup bag and worth adding to your cart during the 20% site-wide discount. I didn’t want to like these because they’re singles. My single eye shadows (looking at you Chantecaille) don’t get enough love because I’m always reaching for an eye shadow palette. I may get one but they aren’t on the Sephora site yet. This mystery box is the one exception in the sale that is actually 50% off! It includes seven secret bestselling products for the price of $164.

Duplicate a high-end product or never buy the same shade twice.

You are never fully dressed without a smile… and some lipstick if you’re a makeup lover. The brand also has a fragrance finder that can help you make a choice you'll love. As with any fragrance, the choice is extremely personal. How something smells to me will more than likely smell different to you.

It also helps reduce the appearance of dark circles. Charlotte’s Magic Cream’s was originally created backstage to quickly prep and transform the look of models’ skin before fashion shows. Now, it’s loved by celebrities and supermodels and is is infused with what Charlotte calls “a magic matrix of oils.” According to the brand, one Magic Cream is sold every minute.

We used an online cruise insurance marketplace to get a quote for a family of four (two adults and two kids) for a seven-day cruise to the Bahamas. Speeding on the Seas: How Fast Do Cruise Ships Go?

how fast does cruise ship travel

Everything from the ship’s design, the weather (rough seas require slower speeds), and even fuel efficiency come into play. It’s a delicate dance, or should we say, a well-coordinated sea shanty of factors that keeps these vessels smoothly sailing to your next port of call. Cruise ship speeds vary based on factors such as size, design, and weather conditions, with average speeds, typically ranging between 20 and 25 knots. While speed is crucial for itinerary planning and passenger comfort, cruise lines must balance this with fuel efficiency and sustainability concerns. One of the fastest cruise ships in the world is Cunard’s Queen Mary 2, which can reach top speeds of up to 30 knots.

Do Cruise Ships Travel Faster at Night?

At first glance, going along at 25 miles per hour may not seem that fast, but for comparison, many residential streets have a 25 mile per hour speed limit. So the next time that you see a car drive past your house, imagine instead that a cruise ship is sailing by that quickly. Improvements are being made to allow ships to sail faster without consuming as much fuel. Wind speed and direction play a major role in cruise ship speed as well. If the ship is sailing into a headwind, it needs to use more fuel and engine power to maintain speed.

List of Carnival Cruise Ships Newest to Oldest

The average speed that a cruise ship travels when in service is normally about three knots slower than the top speed that the ship is susceptible to achieving. This article will tell you how fast cruise ships go in mph as well as the nautical equivalent – knots. It also gives some information about the maximum speeds that cruise ships can reach and explains why cruise ships rarely ever travel at their top speed. Assuming an average speed of 20 knots (23.0 mph/10.8 kph), in 24 hours a cruise ship could travel 480 nautical miles. ” Setting sail on a cruise is an exhilarating experience, with the vast ocean expanse unfolding before you. Understanding the factors that affect the speed of cruise ships is essential for planning your next cruise vacation.

How Cruise Ships Maintain Their Speeds

how fast does cruise ship travel

Some ships will have naturalists onboard, particularly in Glacier Bay. Conditions can sometimes prevent ships from reaching the glaciers, particularly in Tracy Arm Fjord. While you might not be sunning yourself to a stunning shade of bronze on an Alaska cruise, you and everyone on board will want to take in the scenery.

When traveling in the identical way as the seas, cruise ships are able to achieve a higher average speed. Cruise lines, on the other hand, never wait for the sea situations to be ideal before attempting to shatter world records. Ships drilling their way through the water experience more resistance than a car cruising down the highway.

Itinerary

If there’s a driving tailwind, the captain may choose to reduce the engine power to avoid arriving at the next port too early. One land mile is 5,280 feet, while one nautical mile is 6,076 feet. So, to convert knots or nautical miles per hour to land miles per hour, you have to add 15% to the land mile.

Passenger Comfort

For perspective, a 20-knot average cruising speed is the same speed as 23 miles per hour on land. In reality, how fast cruise ships go has little to do with the time of day and more to do with fuel efficiency, weather, the ship’s schedule, and passenger comfort. The Queen Mary 2 holds the title of fastest cruise ship in the world with speeds of 30 knots.

Faster Ships

Before we start, it’s essential to understand that the speed of ships is measured differently than we’re used to on land. Instead of miles per hour, sailors use nautical miles and knots. On the other hand, let’s say you’re crossing a huge stretch of ocean on a Transatlantic cruise. For those long days at sea, the ship will likely sail at its maximum cruising speed to cover more miles faster. As an example, let’s say you’re cruising from Miami overnight to a private island in the Bahamas. Even though your ship can easily cruise at 22 knots, the island is less than 200 miles away.

There’s no official record of the fastest cruise ship as cruise ships rarely, if ever, use their top speed. However, several ships from Holland America Line, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean have been known to reach speeds of over 25 knots (29 mph) during sea trials. Some people may consider Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 to be the fastest cruise ship with a top speed of 30 knots. However, you may be surprised to learn that she’s not technically a cruise ship, she’s an ocean liner!

” Well, I hate to break it to you, but it’s not all about you! As for our friends at Norwegian Cruise Line, they are typically cruising at a maximum speed of around 24 knots. It’s not really about going fast, but more about a relaxing journey on the ocean. If you’ve ever sipped a beverage on a sun-kissed deck, you’ve probably wondered, “How fast does a cruise ship go? ” It can’t be denied that a lot of concepts surrounding cruise ships can both excite and intrigue many of us.

So, if you’re interested in how cruise lines operate and what affects ship speed, keep reading. If the ship arrives early, it usually stops and anchors at sea until the port call time arrives. Sometimes, the vessel will sail around in circles just off the coast until cleared to enter the port. Before jumping into the top speed of a cruise ship, let’s first discuss how to calculate it. The secret in managing speed versus fuel efficiency is in the ship's engineering. According to Fain, the fastest speed that other Royal Caribbean ships is under 25 knots.

Ships might have to sail at higher speeds to outrun potential storms or rough waters. Conversely, they might sail more slowly if they find themselves in choppy swells. Assuming a cruise ship is optimally designed for weight load, its speed will be the square root of its horsepower divided by weight. However, operators who want to improve their speed cannot just offload some weight and expect to achieve maximum speed. For example, front-loading the boat creates drag and slows it down. In general, cruise ships up to 1,100 feet long must carry as much as two million gallons of fuel to make the trip between ports of call.

While doing so, you’ll visit some amazing cities like Rome, Venice and Athens.

A good starting point is Charlie’s Bar, which certainly attracts the tourists but is fascinating. Close to San Nicolas is Baby Beach, a popular stop with several of the tours. But this was far too busy for my liking, which is a shame as it’s a stunning spot. The tiered seating means that you will always be able to see the stage and accessible seating is located near the Deck 7 entrance to the theatre. There is a selection of tribute acts, cabaret-style shows and guest performers throughout the cruise with P&O’s magic show, Astonishing, also making an appearance.

Bars and Drinks on P&O Britannia

If neither of these are for you then the tours that tempted me were the Snorkel, beach and RIB experience. And anything that took to the water, as the island looks beautiful from the ocean. There are plenty of good tours available on St Lucia, but I really recommend anything that include the Pitons, as they are such a spectacular sight. If you don’t fancy them anything that includes the rainforest of plantations are also a great bet. If you don’t want to head to the beach, there are plenty of Shore Experiences in Barbados. These include a sunset cruise, a 4×4 adventure, the best of Barbados and of course beach hopping.

Once you’re in the dock you meet your tour and stay in that tour “bubble”. Our second port was the island of Aruba, and like Curaçao it’s another Dutch territory close to Venezuela. I’d heard mixed reviews about Aruba so as I’d just done an island experience tour I decided to go it alone and rent a car.

Mine was at the start, and if you want a relaxing day head to the Boatyard. It’s within walking distance of the ship and for $30 you can use their inflatables, rope swing, free Wi-Fi and snorkel with turtles. This article will run you through my experience on a two-week cruise on Britannia. I’ll talk through the islands, what I did, what other options you have and my thoughts on the islands. The Britannia ship is the eighth vessel to join P&O UK's fleet and named "to resonate with the forward-looking mood in Britain". Britannia is considered to be the most fitting name because of its famous long heritage, so suitable for the newest P&O addition – the favourite cruise line of Britain. Note that even though this ship is family friendly and has a more relaxed vibe -- formal still means full black tie in the public rooms. Britannia might break many of P&O Cruises' traditions, but dress code still rules -- and that also applies to older children. During your time on board, you’ll see our friendly photographers at key events and in scenic spots around the ship. This is your chance to capture a moment and make it last for a lifetime, so don’t be shy – gather your loved ones and ask for a photo.

The menu features a selection of classic and contemporary dishes, along with an extensive cheese menu, hand picked by cheese expert Charlie Turnbull. Situated in the ship’s atrium, The Glass House meticulously pairs light, tapas-style dishes with a selection of wines that cannot be enjoyed anyway else on P&O Britannia. I dined at The Beach House twice on my last cruise on Britannia and liked it’s casual atmosphere and tasty food. The cheapest specialty dining option on Britannia is The Beach House at just £7.50 for a three-course meal. It’s a pop-up restaurant situated in a section of the Horizon Court Buffet and is only open in the evenings.

I don’t think an island highlights trip would be brilliant here, and the UTV did look fun however keep in mind you very much follow other UTVs in a line and don’t go off-road much. I then hightailed it to the East of the island for two more stops. The first was the Natural Bridge and the second Bushiribana Ruins. I was more impressed by the ruins, and these were popular spots for the UTV tours.

Britannia departed the Fincantieri ship yard on 27 February 2015 for Southampton via Gibraltar. Britannia was officially named on 10 March 2015 by Queen Elizabeth II at the Ocean Terminal. Alcohol over the 1 litre limit will be stored and returned to the guest before the end of the cruise. There are four grades of suite on Britannia and are located forward, mid-ship and in the aft.

On MS Britannia, P&O also introduced a try-before-you-buy program with consultant-managing tasting tables in the ship's beauty and make-up areas.

The tour started with snorkelling with turtles at Playa Grandi on the northwest of the island. After that we went to the caves and viewpoint of Shete Boka Park, followed by Playa Kenepa; one of many stunning beaches on the West Coast. I picked an island explorer tour, which was a whistle-stop tour of the island.
